Lake Shelbyville White Bass Fishing
White Bass are one of the most dominant fish species in Lake Shelbyville. They are literally found in the millions. The last couple of weeks in May until the end of June the White Bass are along the shore feeding on aquatic insects and minnows and can be brought in by the 100s. In August the White Bass leave the shoreline and start schooling. You can find places off points leading into bays where you will find non-stop action. We have had guests report finding spots in the morning and catching a bass almost every cast. In some cased guests have reported having to come in early because they just did not have any strength left in their arms.
White Bass is also an indicator fish for Muskie hunters. If you are catching Bass after Bass and all of a sudden they stop feeding, put on a larger spinner bait or crank bait and cast the area because the only time White Bass stop feeding is when an actively feeding Muskie has moved into the area and has put Bass on the menu.

This kind of action is not only fun for the whole family, it's an excellent way to introduce young children to fishing. The White Bass is also a very tasty fish. It has a nice white meat and is very mild tasting like Walleye. There are thousands of ways to cook White Bass with thousands of free recipes found all over the Internet.
Lake Shelbyville has no cottages or resorts on its shores. Robin Hood Woods is only 2.5 miles from Shelbyville Lake and its multiple boat-launches.

Lake Shelbyville White Bass Fishing Report
White Bass - excellent - 2009 and 2010 were banner years for white bass fishing! Catch rates of 200+ fish per day of good sized fish resulted in a high quality fishery. Clearer water on the main lake helped fisherman success. Fishermen reported catching white bass up to 14 inches, with most keepers from 11 to 12 inches. The largest white bass collected during the 2010 fall survey was 15 inches and weighed 1.3 lbs. The lake record white bass caught was 4 lb 2 oz. in spring 2002. Fishing prospects for 2011 should be excellent for numbers and size.
